Ok, thought I would start a news thread (we don't have one). There is an article about a radio interview with Gaston Gaudio in clarin today, which I thought needs to be posted here www.clarin.com/diario/2008/07/16/um/m-01716586.htmGaudio, con ganas de volver al circuito ATP

Ok, I will try to summarize and translae the main parts of the article. Main point of the article: Gaston confirms that he and Mariano will return to the ATP tour again They will try to get protected ranking to return to the circuit. G's quotes: "Mariano and I never felt that we were more out of tennis than returning to play again. It is true that we were a bit tired after having played tennis since we were kids." " We will ask for a protected ranking, afterwards we hope to receive wildcards in order to start fighting back. We need to fight, without fight we will get nowhere. Right now I need two months until I will start to play again. " Then G says that he misses tennis that he couldn't find the adrenaline that tennis gave him. He also says that he is happy Del Potro won in Stuttgart his first title. ________________________________________________ Good news, isn't it ?

Thanks Corina for the good news and translation.
I read similar article in La Nacion, which has an extra bit of information:
I'm only too happpy right now.

Reiko - poor you in rainy Kitz It is hard to believe that some years ago we were so happy to find a mountain of real ice on the venue! In Ole there is another article www.ole.clarin.com/notas/2008/07/17/tenis/01716937.html with some more details on Mariano's and Gaston's plans to start playing again "Ahora nos dieron ganas..."
"Estoy ahí, esperando a ver si puedo volver a jugar. _______________________________________________________________ Things we don't know already from the other articles: Gaston and Mariano just returned from their (probably skiing or snowboarding) holiday in Bariloche Gaston says that they were both tired of travelling but that now they are motivated again and strong enough to start to play again "a full". Gaston's plan is to start a pre-season with Mariano at the end of the year in order to return to the tour in 2009, and also to start a new TV show (like tenispro, but with another name)

Also, Mariano had played three matches this year and Gaston has only played two. Mariano's ranking is at 961 while Gaston's is at 585. How is this possible?

Thanks Greg for the video It's hard to dislike him. Gaston's ranking is better than Mariano's because Gaston played some matches at challenger touranments in autumn last year while Mariano didn't play anymore after US Open. The points in the ranking represent the points gained in the last 12 months.

Hearsay: Mariano will take care of Pico Monaco for the time being - I guess until Pico finds a new coach. Hope Monaco will play Bercy (qualies) so that I will have a chance to see both of them...

The question can't be answered yet, but we do know that Gaston and Mariano practiced yesterday the whole day in Vilas Raquet Club in Bs As. In the morning they did physical work, in the afternoon the played tennis, coached by Chela's coach (and Lucas's friend Mariano Monachesi. Definitely a good sign Source: www.infobae.com/contenidos/405019-101094-0-La-vuelta-del-GatoCongrats to Argentina on making the Davis Cup final I am very excited about the final against Spain

I am writing this message with such great joy...
A poster in the Challenger thread for the Week 43: Copa Petrobras Buenos Aires [Buenos Aires] said
Creo que vuelve el GATO GAUDIO CON ZABALA ! ojalá Which another poster translated to... hat he thinks Gastón "El Gato" Gaudio and Mariano Zabaleta are coming back to play this tourney.
Now I do know that this is not a reliable source but still it in in Mariano's home city.
His ranking is to low to be on the entry list for md or an alternate but if he asked for a wild card I am sure that they would give him one in 2 seconds.
HOPE!!!

Hmm, a somewhat reliable poster in MTF said that Gaston won't play the Buenos Aires challenger, but it's just paper news so nothing confirmed. But Mariano still might play it. And yes Corina if you could recap the TennisPro episode for us it would be awesome.

Gaudio: “I´ve only just started training and I´ll return when I think I´m ready, I don´t want to feel embarrassed on court.”
This was this weekend and this means he won't be playing at the Buenos Aires Challenger.
Still a chance for M.
