Mariano won the first set 6-3 and was down 0-1 when the play finished and Mariano was declared the winner!! ;D Anyone know what happened? He now faces Coria in the Qtr Finals. Coria has beaten Mariano on all 3 encounters (all on clay - last encounter was in 2003 - Roland Garros) but the way Mariano has been playing lately, I think he can turn that stat around! Vamos Mariano!!!

Yes...
It was, painfully short and over very quickly...
something happened to Mariano's foot on landing, he immediately stopped playing, sat in his chair stripped off his shoe and called the trainer.
Trainer looked at it... and then said Game Set Match.
Mariano was NOT carried off... so I am hoping nothing is broken.

Sorry people, but under the circumstances I dont really want to do a match report... except to say that Mariano had Ferrer's number!
Bloody Rain on Monday! Bloody Injuries!
Hey Man upstairs!!! WHAT has he got to do to before you let him win his brilliant matches?

That's too bad, the scoreboard had it as Winner: Zabaleta. I hope he is okay.

I just checked the scoreboard again and under results it has Mariano as defeating Ferrer 6-3 and 0-1.

Maria
The scoreboard is wrong. If you are looking at the ATP Scoreboard... then this is a fact of life... they make lots of mistakes.
Sky sports had live uninterrupted coverage.... the cameraman even stayed focussed on his foot for about 10 minutes (it seemed like that) and we got to see Mariano's painful expressions, and to listen to his conversations with the Referee, the Umpire, complete with sign language to his coach, we also got to see the look of distress in his coaches face... etc etc etc
basically... he retired injured... he's out... it was not nice to watch at all.

Sorry for the confusion everyone. On the official Monte Carlo website, the scoreboard had a different result with Mariano being the winner yet on the order of play section it lists Ferrer as the winner. I wish I was right in this case

I'm using the hope that nothing is broken.... using the faith that if anything was broken or torn or badly injured, the Umpire and Trainer would have helped to carry him off court. This did not happen. He limped off unaided - although a security guard was close by if he needed... I took this as a good sign.

There isn't anything official about the injury in the online newspapers yet. I guess we have to wait for tomorrow for more infos. Mariano is out of Barcelona, though I really hope the foot injury is not as bad as it looks like. Healing vibes to Mariano - you are in our thoughts.

I have just seen what happened to Mariano in today's game. He was explaning to the trainer that he felt like his foot hit a wall in that moment, so that was why he turned as soon as he began to feel pain... He thought that he had something broken... I hope that he was wrong. Nothing else was said here on TV about Mariano.
